This past weekend, NMSU racers Gordon McDonald, Scott Powers, Sten Hasselquist, and Marcel Berger participated in their annual home event the Trifecta Series. The event was composed of a time trial and criterium on Saturday and on Sunday, a road race in Hillsboro, NM.
For Gordon, it was the first time to ride the race against the clock, which turned out quite successfully by finishing 3rd. Patrick and Sten strongly performed and concluded the time trial in the top ten 4th & 9th respectively.
The criterium was hard fought and a windy affair. All racers showed strong performances and finished in the top 10 of their respective categories. Marcel got 2nd and sequently Gordon, Patrick, and Sten finished 5th, 6th, & 7th.
On Sunday, the team headed towards the small remote Hillsboro in the Gila National Forest. For most racers, it is the first road race event in the year and a very good indicator whether the winter training was well implemented. Apparently, it was, because the results spoke from themselves. Gordon and Patrick finished 4th & 5th and Sten concluded his first road race weekend in the top ten again by finishing 8th.
Overall, the team proudly represented New Mexico State with consecutive strong performances on home soil. Furthermore, the NMSU Cycling Club sends a very big thank you too the event organizer Zia Velo Cycling and all volunteers. Without the help of so many people this event would not been possible. Thank you very much!!!
Way to go Aggies!!!
